I first shot with Shayna (@theavalanches_) a few months back. A short time later, I was shooting her galactic, Bowie-esque marching band, Love Bomb Go-Go, during their pre-WNBR and snagged a random shot of an adorable little dude with waist-length blonde riding on a man's shoulders through the crowd, watching the performance. It was instantly one of my the favorite images I've made this year. When I posted the photo a few days later, Shayna texted me a few moments later. The boy in the photo was her son.
We chatted about doing this shoot for a while, and I eventually got a chance to meet the little energetic adventurer that is Cypress Walker and witness the beauty of that mother-son bond between Shayna and her boy. We chased Cypress' energetic tornado through Cathedral Park and made some images in the process. Here are some of those images...
AJA+MIKE | WEDDING
I've been friends with Mike Dorsey for almost six years. We played in a band together and have shared some days, nights, and stories that I will absolutely remember for the rest of my life.
I had the opportunity and privilege to photograph his wedding this weekend, and get to spend a little more time with his beautiful bride, Aja Ricketts. These two are just perfect for each other. Screw the cliche in this case because it's absolutely true. They're an unbelievably complimentary blend of quirkiness, creativity, and compassion. And the whole of the wedding mirrored this perfectly.
The wedding was an Art Deco-themed affair, with the ceremony held in Mike's parents' backyard garden-wonderland, where they themselves were hitched a few decades ago. A fleet of pedicabs transported guests from the ceremony, through Gainesville's historic Duckpond neighborhood, over to the reception, where everyone got around to the proper celebratory business of eating, imbibing, and dancing.
BRITTANY+KYLE | ENGAGEMENT
THERESA+TIM | WEDDING
Theresa has three daughters, all in their mid-to-late twenties. Tim has three sons, all in their mid-to-late twenties. And the post-pubescent Brady Bunch comparisons weren't lost on either side of the bridal party. In fact, they actually made it a sort of unofficial theme of the wedding weekend. As one of the Bernards sisters mentioned to me, "I mean, how cool is this? How many daughters get to participate in, and understand the significance of, their mom's wedding?" And that was the tone and tenor of the weekend- celebratory, inclusive, and fun, with the focus on all the right things. It was a small family-and--friends ceremony in the gorgeous backyard of their Portland residence.
